Focus on Pre-Literacy and Emerging Readers: Activity bins, Launchpads and Ipads, oh my!

As part of a grant received in January 2015, we were able to purchase a variety of new materials specifically geared toward our pre-literate and emerging reader patrons.  Four new activity bins, filled with books, games, puzzles and more are available for use on the library floor and are also available for checkout by any Daviess County teacher for classroom use.   In addition to the bins, we have five new Launchpad tablets which are available for parents to check out for their youngsters for a 7-day period.  The Launchpads are programmed with apps engineered for ages 3-6.  The tablets do not connect to the internet, are rugged in design and sized for little hands, and also offer the benefit of a parent monitoring feature by which parents can see in what skill areas their child is excelling or in what areas the child could use a little help.

Helping our youngest patrons to develop a love for reading is one of top priorities.  These resources and more are available in our children's section.

This materials and grant were made possible in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services and Technology Act as administered by the Missouri State Library a division of the Office of the Secretary of State in partnership with the Daviess County Library.
