Daviess County Library Board Meeting
December 18, 2018 at 4 p.m.
The board met in the basement at the main library.
Present: Daren Adkins, Shonna Morrison, Mary Jarboe, Kelvina Hobbs, Gregg Hartley, and interim director Elizabeth Plotner.
Daren called the meeting to order at 4:06 p.m.
The board reviewed the minutes of the November 15, 2018 meeting. Kelvina moved that the minutes be accepted as amended. Mary seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.
The board reviewed the bills and financial reports. Gregg moved to pay the bills and Shonna moved to second the motion, which passed unanimously.
Elizabeth presented her director’s report. She shared the press release for today which summarized the fall activities and previewed the NASA activities that are coming. She plans to open the exhibit on January 5 by invitation only and to the general public on January 8, 2019. There will also be an adult winter reading program as well as several others. A book challenge for students will also be held. Elizabeth has not received any communication from the company that buys gas wells. Nedra Eichler donated $175 in memory of Roger Eichler, which will be used to purchase a Launchpad™ tablet with adult/high school level programs, and $25 in memory of Neddie Eichler, which will be used to purchase children’s books.
Mary moved that during the period December 25, 2018 through January 7, 2019 (the Twelve Days of Christmas), the library suspend fines for any overdue physical material brought back during that time period. Gregg seconded the motion which passed unanimously.
The board discussed the process that will be used to request bids for the HVAC system replacement. Bids will be due January 15, 2019.
The board examined the budget for next year and discussed changes to be made.
Mary moved to hire Elizabeth Plotner as full-time director. Kelvina seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.
Mary moved to approve the budget as presented, and Kelvina seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.
Shonna moved that the meeting be adjourned, and Kelvina seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. Meeting adjourned at 5:55 p.m.
The next regular meeting will be held at 4 p.m. on January 17, 2019 at the main library.
